Reference services is the process of establishing contact between a reader and his document in a personal way.
Reference services makes or mars the expectation and fulfillment of a library. It is the reference department, the pivot around which the entire activities of a library rotate. There is need for establishing of contact between the right reader and the right book at the right time and in the right personal way and the effective method of fulfilling this need is through reference services.
Most of the libraries have a separate area for high use, super helpful book. Usually reference books are associated with encyclopedias, dictionaries, treasurers, handbook, manuals and atlas etc.
Normally reference books can not be taken out of the library, but it can use for as long as like which the readers are in the library.
Specific information instruction about any subject provides to use at a proper time. Computerized cataloguing system is available in ready reference services.
There are no provision for issue books to reader in reference section. The important substance (Information) provide them with the help of photocopier machine.
Directorate of Library Services, Assam with financial assistance of Raja Rammhun Roy Library Foundation establish 23 nos. of Children Corner at different District, Sub-Division and Branch Libraries.
The Children corner are built up for upliftment of reading habit among the children. It tries ensuring brighter further to the youth, providing entertainment through Games, Audio visual, DVD's, TV's etc. within the age group of 4 to 14.
